An extremely popular option, lingual braces are attached to the inside surfaces of the teeth, making them virtually invisible from the outside. As such, they’re an ideal choice for both teen and adult patients who desire a more subtle way to straighten their teeth.

Dr. Mahtab Partovi provides you with the most discreet lingual braces at an affordable price. She understands that braces can lower self esteem and has many options to help you achieve the smile of your dreams without sacrificing your looks.

An overview of lingual braces

Lingual braces work exactly like traditional metal braces, but instead of being bonded to the front of your teeth, they’re attached to the inside surfaces. If you choose to straighten your teeth with lingual braces, your treatment will be very much the same as it would be with traditional braces. It will begin with an initial consultation at 360 Orthodontics, during which time Dr. Partovi will examine your mouth, as well as take x-rays, dental impressions and measurements to identify problem areas and create a custom plan to address them.

During the actual placement of lingual braces, Dr. Partovi will attach a tiny metal bracket to the back of your teeth using a special dental cement. The brackets are self-ligating, which means that instead of using elastic rings (ligatures) to attach the arch wire to the brackets, the wire is attached directly to the brackets. This makes Dr. Partovi’s lingual braces faster and substantially less painful than the lingual braces you’ll find at other orthodontic offices.

Once your lingual braces are placed, you will return to the office periodically so Dr. Partovi can assess how your teeth are moving. She will also adjust your braces from time to time, applying strategic pressure to straighten your teeth and align your jaw as needed.

Do lingual braces interfere with speaking?

As lingual braces are located in close proximity to the tongue, many patients want to know if they’ll interfere with their ability to speak with ease. Fortunately, lingual braces will not inhibit your ability to speak. You might need a few days to get used to the new appliance being present, but once you do you’ll be able to speak and enunciate normally.

How to care for your lingual braces

Because lingual braces are located inside the mouth and cannot be seen by the patient, special care must be taken to ensure they are clean and to prevent build-up from occurring. In addition to keeping your routine appointments with Dr. Partovi at 360 Orthodontics, you should also:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day.
  • Floss and rinse with mouthwash daily.

How much do
lingual braces cost?

At 360 Orthodontics, lingual braces final cost will depend on a variety of factors. All of our treatments are completely customized for our patients. The severity of the dental issues being corrected and the length of time you’ll need to have braces to achieve an optimal outcome can affect the pricing. During your initial consultation, Dr. Partovi will be able to offer personalized guidance on your specific investment.

Are lingual braces painful?

In the past, braces were associated with pain. Fortunately, with technological advancements in the dental industry, that is no longer the case, and today’s braces are more comfortable than ever.

The initial placement of your lingual braces is completely pain-free. After that, your teeth and jaw may feel slightly sore for about a week due to the gradual movement of your teeth. After each follow-up appointment to tighten your braces, you may also experience some discomfort for a few days, though it will be very easily managed with over-the-counter pain medications and by adopting a temporary soft food diet.
