By far the most exciting part about braces is when you finally get to remove them and see your beautiful, brand new smile. Whether your orthodontic treatment was performed at 360 Orthodontics or somewhere else entirely, Dr. Partovi is available to remove your braces and reveal the straight and healthy teeth you’ve been waiting for.
HOW ARE BRACES REMOVED?
When you come in to have your braces removed at 360 Orthodontics, you can expect a quick, pain-free and entirely comfortable experience. Dr. Partovi will begin by using a tiny dental instrument to remove the elastic rings that are around each bracket to connect the wire system. She will then use small pliers to remove the wire from each bracket, before gently squeezing and removing each bracket from the front of your teeth. From there, Dr. Partovi will use a high-speed dental tool to polish and clean your teeth, expertly removing any residue from the dental cement that may remain.
You can expect your entire braces removal appointment to last approximately 40 minutes. Once your braces are removed, Dr. Partovi will discuss the next steps with you, which may include a permanent or temporary retainer. If so, she will take impressions of your teeth to create your custom-made appliance. Dr. Partovi will also take a photo of your beautiful new smile, so you can compare it to your old teeth to see how far you’ve come!
Caring for your teeth after braces
Once your braces come off, it’s normal for your teeth to feel a bit strange without the appliance. They may be sensitive at first, so ease yourself into eating the crunchy and chewy foods you had to avoid during treatment.
To keep your teeth healthy, it’s very important that you continue to floss and brush your teeth regularly, as well as wear your retainer as directed to prevent your teeth from moving. In addition, make sure you schedule regular dental cleanings moving forward, to maintain your oral health and ensure your new smile remains beautiful for years to come.
After removing your braces, you’ll need to wear a retainer to keep your teeth in perfect alignment and ensure your beautiful new smile doesn’t shift to its former position. During your braces removal appointment, Dr. Partovi will give you the choice of three distinct types of retainers:
Permanent retainer

As the name suggests, a permanent retainer is permanently placed in your mouth. It consists of a thin wire that is bonded to the inside surface of your teeth to protect your beautiful new smile, ensuring it remains straight and healthy for years to come.
Clear retainer

Clear retainers look somewhat similar to the tray aligners used with Invisalign treatment. As such, they are virtually invisible and are perfect for adult and teen patients who want to protect their beautiful new smile as discreetly as possible.
Hawley retainer

The most common type of retainer, Hawley retainers are removable appliances that consist of wires, clasps and a thick plastic body that covers the roof of your mouth. This removable appliance comes in a variety of fun designs and colorful hues, making it an exciting part of your orthodontic treatment.
