Damon Clear Braces vs. Traditional Clear Braces
In the past, everyone knew if you were wearing braces, because there was no real way to hide a mouth full of metal. Today, however, you have a wide range of options when it comes to orthodontic systems which are clear.
What’s the difference between Damon clear systems and other clear systems?
There are several clear brace options on the market today, including Damon clear, Invisalign and clear ceramic braces. The Damon system are a self-litigating system, which means that because the braces are doing a lot of the litigating, or tightening and adjusting, work themselves, you may need to visit your orthodontist fewer times over the course of your treatment. On the other hand, some other clear brace systems like Invisalign are removable, which is something that a lot of people like, especially if they attend functions regularly which they would prefer not to wear braces to.
Traditional clear braces are made of either plastic or porcelain or ceramic, made to match the shade of your teeth. They are often a more affordable option, although our office will be able to compare prices for you based on exactly what your dental needs are. Additionally, we are happy to discuss various dental financing options with you.
One disadvantage of some of the traditional clear systems is that if they rely on clear elastic ties, the ties can be stained by food and drink and can appear less “clear” more quickly than some other systems. Of course, elastic ties can easily be changed, which may negate this disadvantage. The ceramic braces themselves (i.e., the brackets) are very strong and generally will not stain – only the elastics may stain, and these are changed by your orthodontist on a regular basis.
The type of braces you should get will depend on a number of factors, including whether extractions will be necessary, the severity of your overbite or underbite, the amount of treatment time required, and what you personally desire.
